About SPE

Solar Power Engineering (SPE) is an electrical engineering consulting firm specializing in the Photovoltaic (PV) Energy sector.  Company was founded in July, 2010.

Brian Browning – Principal

Bachelor of Science degree in  Electrical Engineering from the University of Vermont.  Licensed Professional Engineer since 1996.  Prior to starting SPE, Brian was a commercial project engineer for groSolar, a large solar distributor and integrator based in White River Junction, Vemont.  While at groSolar for 2+ years, Brian was responsible for the design and commissioning of multiple PV projects in VT, MA, CT, NC, and CA.

Prior to groSolar, Brian was a project engineer and electrical engineering department manager for Northern Power Systems where my main responsibility was the design and construction oversight of custom power systems used primarily in off-grid applications.  While at Northern Power Brian also worked on large grid interconnected PV systems.  It was this exposure and interest with PV systems that lead him to launch into a career dedicated to the design of PV systems.

Before Northern Power, Brian worked as an electrical engineer for 10 years at Hallam Engineering in Burlington focused on the design of electrical distribution systems for industrial and institutional buildings.  Prior to that Brian worked as a Field Engineer for 4-1/2 years for an Electric Utility based in Worcester, MA.

It is this wide range of electrical engineering experience that allows SPE to fully understand all of the engineering aspects related to the design of any large PV system, from the design of the DC system all the way through to the final AC interconnection to the grid.
